Position Summary

Sole legal counsel position for Americas.

Opportunity to work closely with cross-functional teams (incl. Sales, Ops, Finance, HR) and international stakeholders.

Primary legal resource responsible for all legal, contractual, and compliance matters related to business operations across in Americas, and United States and Canada primarly.

 

The role reports directly to the Legal, Contract, and Compliance Director of the Aeronautics Business Line, based in France, and works in close collaboration with the global legal network of Thales Group.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary legal advisor for Thales Aeronautics operations in the U.S. and Canada.
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a wide range of commercial contracts, including customer, supplier, partnership, and service agreements, in both public and private sectors.
  • Support the operational teams during contract negotiations to ensure compliance with internal policies and risk management practices.
  • Ensure, with coordination of the group legal specialists in Thales North America organization, adherence to applicable U.S. and Canadian laws, regulations, and Thales Group policies, including those relating to export control, data privacy, and anti-corruption.
  • Provide legal guidance on claims, disputes, and litigations, coordinating with external counsel as needed.
  • Oversee legal aspects of corporate governance, labor law issues, and compliance across the U.S. and Canada, in partnership with HR and external legal providers.
  • Collaborate with business and legal teams globally, particularly with stakeholders in France.
  • Support activities related to military and government contracts
  • Drive local legal awareness and contribute to the development and delivery of training and internal policies implementation.

Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree from a U.S. or Canadian law school, or equivalent foreign law degree
  • 7+ years of experience in a legal and/or contract management role, preferably within the aerospace, defense, or technology sectors
  • Demonstrated expertise in commercial contract negotiation and management, including in cross-border contexts
  • Solid knowledge of U.S. commercial and corporate law; experience with international legal environments & knwoledge of Canadian regulations is a plus
  • Familiarity with the military contracting environment, including FAR/DFARS, is a strong asset
  • Ability to work independently in a standalone legal role, while staying connected to the Business Line StakeHolders in France and the broader Thales legal community
  • Leadership, strong interpersonal, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Admission to the bar in US or Canada is a plus
  • Fluent in English; French language skills are a plus
